About Disgust-Based OCD
Unlike other types of OCD where the primary emotional trigger for the obsessive thoughts is fear, disgust-based OCD is a subtype of OCD where the primary emotional trigger for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors is disgust. This can significantly impact a person’s daily life, as they may experience intense feelings of revulsion or contamination in response to certain thoughts, situations, or objects. These feelings of disgust often drive the compulsive behaviors that the person uses to reduce anxiety or prevent perceived harm. It is important to note that fear and disgust are not mutually exclusive and that a person can experience symptoms of both fear-based OCD and disgust-based OCD.
