About Need To Know OCD
“Need to know” OCD is a subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder that revolves around the compulsion to seek certainty or the need to know something perfectly or completely before feeling satisfied. People with this type of OCD often feel that they have to acquire exact or complete knowledge about a subject, event, or situation, or they feel uncomfortable or anxious if they don’t have this certainty. To relieve anxiety or doubt, the person may engage in compulsive behaviors, such as excessive research, asking others for validation, or repeating certain actions until they feel a sense of completeness.
